If you suffer from persistent back or neck pain or recently suffered a sprain or strain, then you know just how limiting, and painful everyday activity can become. Whether you are dealing with acute or chronic pain, chiropractic care offers relief from these conditions and dozens of others.
Most people know that chiropractors often use adjustments to help alleviate pain stemming from the spine or peripheral joints. But did you know that chiropractors are also often skilled with other forms of soft tissue work to help people find relief?
In the case of back and neck pain, it is very common for people to also experience tension and restrictions in the soft tissues around the spinal joints. Often the pain is the result of multiple variables affecting one another. Fortunately, our chiropractic team understands the interconnection of our bodies’ systems and how to incorporate any tool needed to get you the results you deserve!
What is the Graston Technique®?
Graston Technique® is an innovative form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique that enables clinicians to effectively treat scar tissue, fascial restrictions, and restrictions in range of motion that are causing pain. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis, areas of adhesion, or chronic inflammation.
An emollient (specialized lotion/cream) is placed on the skin in the area to be treated, and each instrument employs a beveled treatment edge. The treatment edge facilitates the stretch and relaxation of the muscles while simultaneously breaking down adhesions and stimulating blood flow to the injured area, accelerating the natural healing process.
The Graston Technique® requires the training and expertise of the practitioner using this technique. When used by a skilled practitioner, this highly effective treatment is not painful and should not cause any bruising. Our chiropractors at Zenith Physiotherapy and Wellness are highly trained in the use of this method of treatment to break down adhesions and fascial restrictions, relieve pain and inflammation, and release muscle tension.
Common Conditions Graston Technique Can Treat
The Graston Technique® enables clinicians to detect and treat adhesions causing pain, restrictions in mobility, and limiting everyday function. This method has been shown to help treat common musculoskeletal injuries such as:
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain
- Muscle strains (i.e., hamstring strain)
- Tendonopathy (i.e., Tennis elbow, Runner’s knee, and Achilles tendinitis)
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
The technique helps mobilize the soft tissue that has been affected by injury and helps improve the range of motion and reduce pain. If you have been diagnosed with any of these conditions or are experiencing pain-associated symptoms, it’s time to contact a licensed chiropractor for treatment.
Your Zenith Physiotherapy and Wellness chiropractor will be able to properly assess your condition and assemble a comprehensive treatment plan for your recovery, which may even include Graston Technique®!
